A Journey Built on Trust, Coordination, and Commitment
Ship Agency Services for Tanker MT Red Ruby in Indonesia: From Teluk Kabung to Batam
In Indonesia’s maritime industry, vessel operations often extend beyond a single port. For tanker operators, a port call is not only about cargo discharge, but also involves technical attendance, logistics coordination, and follow-up activities in other locations.
This was the case for MT. Red Ruby, a tanker operated by one of our long-time clients, during her operation in Teluk Kabung, West Sumatera, followed by her onward journey to Batam, Indonesia.
Batam Shipping Agency (PT. Bisa Jasa Segara) was appointed to support the vessel’s activities across both locations, ensuring that each stage of the operation was carried out smoothly, efficiently, and without delay.
Cargo Discharge and Operational Support in Teluk Kabung, West Sumatera

MT. Red Ruby during her operation in Indonesian waters
MT. Red Ruby arrived at Teluk Kabung for cargo discharge at the oil terminal. During this phase, the vessel was also attended by a Technical Superintendent and a Class Surveyor, requiring careful coordination between the vessel, terminal, and local authorities.
Our team provided full agency support throughout the vessel’s stay, including coordination with port authorities, terminal operators, and immigration. Crew handling arrangements were also prepared, ensuring flexibility for any sign-on or sign-off requirements during the operation.
Operating in a regional port environment such as Teluk Kabung requires proactive communication and close monitoring, especially when multiple activities take place simultaneously. Every schedule must be aligned, and every stakeholder must be coordinated to avoid unnecessary delays.
Logistics Coordination and Supporting Operational Activities

Onboard documentation and coordination during vessel operation
In addition to port and vessel-related services, the operation also involved several supporting activities that required attention.
This included arranging hotel accommodation for attending personnel, as well as coordinating logistics for ship spares originating from Singapore. Considering the potential customs challenges for shipments entering Indonesia, alternative delivery methods were evaluated to ensure that the spares could reach the vessel on time.
These supporting activities may not always be visible, but they play a critical role in ensuring that the overall operation runs smoothly and without disruption.
Operational Continuation in Batam: Lifeboat Collection and Crew Change

Vessel lifeboats prepared after repair in Batam.
Upon completion of cargo discharge in Teluk Kabung, MT Red Ruby proceeded to Batam for the next phase of her operation.
In Batam, the vessel’s main objective was to collect her lifeboats, which had been repaired at a local workshop. At the same time, additional crew change arrangements were required.
Prior to the vessel’s arrival, Batam Shipping Agency prepared all necessary documentation, including the submission of the Entry Permit (PKKA), to ensure a smooth port clearance process. Close coordination was maintained with the vessel and principal to complete all required documents in advance.
Once the vessel arrived, our team coordinated with local service providers for the lifeboat collection and managed the crew change process, ensuring that all activities were carried out safely and within the planned schedule.
Operational timing, including daylight working requirements, was also carefully considered to maintain efficiency and compliance.
Ensuring Well-Coordinated Multi-Port Operations

The lifeboas was towed to the Red Ruby at Batam Anchorage.
The operation of MT Red Ruby highlights the importance of strong coordination across multiple ports in Indonesia.
From cargo discharge in West Sumatera to technical and crew-related activities in Batam, every stage required precise planning, timely communication, and reliable execution.
Batam Shipping Agency ensured that all parties involved — from vessel crew and ship management to local authorities and service providers — were aligned throughout the process, minimizing delays and maintaining operational continuity.
