We’re Ready to Handle Your Next Vessel in Batam
Submarine Cable Handling in Batam
As the demand for faster, more stable global connectivity grows, submarine cables continue to be the backbone of international communication networks. These high-capacity fiber optic cables transmit data across continents—forming the invisible infrastructure that powers everything from video calls to cloud services.
PT. Bisa Jasa Segara, operating under the name Batam Shipping Agency, was appointed as the local agent for MV. Bulker Bee 11, a Netherlands-flagged cargo vessel delivering a critical shipment of submarine cable to Batam. The cable cargo, measuring 1,157.5 kilometers and equipped with 11 repeater units, was commissioned by one of Indonesia’s largest telecommunications companies. The project aims to lay a new subsea connection between Batam Island and Java Island.

About Submarine Cables
A submarine cable is a long fiber optic cable laid on the seabed between coastal stations to carry internet and telecommunication data. Each cable can transmit terabits of data per second and includes repeater units to boost the optical signal over long distances, ensuring seamless transmission across thousands of kilometers.

The Mission: Cable Cargo for National Connectivity
MV. Bulker Bee 11 arrived in Batam carrying 1,157.5 kilometers of cable to support this high-priority infrastructure project. The cargo was split for two destinations:
-
1,108.5 kilometers of cable were designated for transfer to a cable laying vessel
-
The remaining 49 kilometers were meant for onshore storage at a secure warehouse facility

Ship-to-Ship and Ship-to-Port Cable Transfer
The unloading process was conducted in two operational phases:
Ship-to-Ship (STS) Operation
The bulk of the cable—1,108.5 kilometers—was transferred directly from MV. Bulker Bee 11 to the cable laying vessel Bentang Bahari in a double banking position at a special terminal in Batam. This ship-to-ship (STS) operation took 25 working days, requiring precise coordination to ensure safe and damage-free transfer.
Ship-to-Port (STP) Operation
The remaining 49 kilometers of cable were offloaded to shore and moved into a storage warehouse. This ship-to-port (STP) phase lasted approximately 3 working days, involving land logistics and special handling procedures to preserve the integrity of the high-value cargo.
